That "charmer" guide though is icky, icky stuff. You know, it would be interesting to see this the other way around... because in the book I'm editing at the moment, one of the male characters gets a bit manipulated one of the female characters. That's always fun. And it's from his POV.

Thanks again!Michelle D. When I read the list of your heroine's three potential loves, that third guy, though obviously bad, was the most fascinating to me. The idea that he will seem real rather than a generic type, makes it all the more interesting.

I had a similar situation to what you started out discussing in which a smaller character (not one of my three main characters) was stealing the show. He was introduced at about page 30 and whenever anyone encountered him, they said how much they liked him. My solution was to try and figure out what made him work and to put that same essence in my main characters. It forced me to build everyone up to the same level. So, if you know that your charmer is a compelling character, I bet it will be a fun challenge to figure out what qualities you can give to your hero (and maybe villain) to make him just as exciting.Davin Malasarnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09385823575081492949noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37083420.post-71643661207394496492009-03-18T20:59:00.000-07:002009-03-18T20:59:00.000-07:00Sara, I'm sad to say, the purpose of the book is t...Sara, I'm sad to say, the purpose of the book is to teach guys to do this. And that's the truly unfortunate side of it. But question: was that book written to TEACH men how to be "players" or was it a book on how players act? (Though fortunately I recovered my senses.)

These guys hide their agenda, by (1) being very funny, so you're laughing at their jokes, (2) hiding who their real "target" is -- sometimes it's the girl they're ignoring, not the one they're paying attention to and (3) counting on the fact that people who are nice and honest want to be nice and honest toward others and expect the same in return.Tara Mayahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09095632631554776002noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37083420.post-10778751128107018982009-03-18T16:03:00.000-07:002009-03-18T16:03:00.000-07:00this is completely fascinating ... i never would h...this is completely fascinating ... i never would have guessed this technique worked so well. my first thought is 'the girl who falls for this must be really insecure' but the more i think about it, the gradual wearing down of self ... wow ! and after all, who DOESN'T start out with at least a little insecurity. it boggles the mind how much work charmers put into their 'profession'. litgirl said it best "intellectual seduction". i'm awed and disgusted at the same time. thanks for sharing all your research it will help and not just in writing characters ...Banhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15450115293974960761noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37083420.post-57199107547330409372009-03-18T15:27:00.000-07:002009-03-18T15:27:00.000-07:00I hoped other people might find it useful.
