Little did I know there were so many contenders.
After some thought, I decided to keep the Icelandic name for the chosen dish, an indelicacy which has been declared "the world's worst food": hakurl -- putrified poison shark.
So what does hakarl taste like then? It tastes like crying. It tastes like broken promises. It tastes like the Lord God Almighty ripping the Bible out of your hands and saying, "Sorry, this doesn't apply for you. I think you want "Who Moved My Cheese?" It tastes like the Predator wading into a Care Bears movie and opening fire.
Sadly, I won't be able to use this description of it, much as I would love to.

Okay, if this food tastes that bad, then WHY is it being created for consumption?
That description makes me want to laugh and barf at the same time. Quite a feat.
Do people really eat this? The three word definition is bad enough!
Isn't it fun when you get to create something like that for your book?? I LOVE that stuff. ;)
But if you are ever making hakurl for dinner...Then I've got plans that night. ;)
A predator wading into a Carebears movie...Oh my!
That's just wrong! But it sounds like just what you need for your book.
LOL!
hahahaahhah!!!!
That is hilarious.
Most disgusting thing I've ever heard of: Alaskan ice cream.
Check it out here--

But I think your description is about the best I've ever seen!!!
'laugh and hurl' that's the best :D
Wow, Alaskan ice cream sounds like the perfect desert to go with hakurl.
That description is fantastic. So vivid!
That is absolutely disgusting! I followed the link and...
*covers mouth and runs away*
I love your description!
That description almost makes me want to eat it.
They also have this dish that's made of rotten (read: aged. Hah!) whale blubber. I think its' an Icelandic dish.
I love the description of the hakurl you found.
Once I was invited to a party thrown by someone trying to impress and they served caviar. - think poppy seeds soaked in the oil you drain from a can of tuna.
Okay, it's not the most disgusting thing on Earth but it does fall under the "What for?" catagory.
